Our Weapons - The Word
2 Cor. 10:3-5
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
What a challenge it is for us to live in this world that continually cries out to us with traditions, rules and regulations, and yet live in the liberty and power of being seated in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). The earthbound soul responds so easily to the temptation of worldly pleasures and carnal reasoning. The flesh is ruled by the mind. It is simply an outlet for what we think and our thoughts are created by words. Our own words are the most effective, but the words we listen to also change our thinking and consequently our actions.
As the Lord teaches us to war we find a vast contrast from the stressful, frustrating ways we are accustomed to. In this new way we no longer look for methods to get our own way but seek the Lord’s way. In fact, the battle actually belongs to God since he knows that we are incapable of success on our own.
Our part in the war is consuming the Word of God so his thoughts have priority over our earthly ones. We will never overcome our weak thinking by our own will. We need the Spirit of God to implant truth within us. Arguments and pretensions that deny the knowledge and power of God are the lies of the enemy. Satan is the father of lies—the supreme liar. If Adam and Eve, who were made in the image of God and were perfect could not win the debate against the devil, how are you to gain success in your own ability?
Bring every thought to the Lord. How does it line up with his thoughts? What truth is the Lord presenting? Cling to that; speak it and rest in it. It is your sure defense and deliverance!
